Hoiio @ The Internet Show 2010

April 30, 2010

Hello!

We would like to thank everyone who had stopped by at our booth and gave us the opportunity to introduce Hoiio’s products and services to you.

It was wonderful meeting up with our customers and making new friends. We enjoyed the discussions we had about how Hoiio can help individuals and businesses enjoy significant savings and improve productivity. Many of those we spoke to were impressed at how seamlessly Hoiio can extend these benefits!

For those who were unable to visit us at The Internet Show, we would like to invite you to visit our website at www.hoiio.com/business . Or, give us a call at 6595 0480 to arrange for a free consultation on how Hoiio can help to empower the mobile workforce across your enterprise.

We like to end this entry with some snippets of the event.

BlackBerry v1.9.0 Released

April 29, 2010

Have you been anticipating us to release a new version to setup Hoiio Roaming for your BlackBerry? Or perhaps eagerly waiting for the feature to send Hoiio SMS to multiple recipients?

We have a great news for you BlackBerry users. As of today, you can download a new release of Hoiio on BlackBerry!

This new version brings about a number of new features. A detailed changelog can be downloaded here. There are far too many features and changes to mention, but we would like to highlight 3 features here.

1. Easy 3-step Roaming Setup

If you are familiar with Hoiio Roaming solution, you will be glad that you can now setup your phone right from your BlackBerry. You can do so by going to More > Roaming.

To keep things simple, all you have to do is to follow the 3 steps

  1. before you leave,
  2. when you arrive, and
  3. when you return

That’s it!

2. SMS to Multiple Recipients

Sending Hoiio SMS to multiple recipients has been a feature requested by many BlackBerry users since the app was launched. It took us quite a while to release this new version, hence we apologize if you have been waiting all these while.

But hey! We are glad that this useful feature is finally available for BlackBerry.

3. Call Log Records

We are really happy to mention this last item – BlackBerry call log records.

In the previous versions, whenever you initiated a call back using Hoiio, the call log is kind of messed up. For example, if you call Jason using Hoiio and talk for 3 min, instead of seeing a call log record “Jason – 3 min“, you would see “6591 8888 – 3 min“!

This happens because you received an incoming call from Hoiio, whose number is 6591 8888.

With this new version, we have kept how things should be on your BlackBerry, and you would see “Jason – 3min“.

We are also proud that this feature is available firsthand for Hoiio BlackBerry users. For the rest of the mobile platforms, it will be coming soon!

Lastly, to update your app, simply click on the Update options in the app, or head over to m.hoiio.com to download the latest version.

Freshly Ordered iPad for You

April 28, 2010

We admired Apple for the groundbreaking products and concepts they introduced in the past few years. For mobile app developers like us, Apple has helped push mobile data (GPRS) charges down and make mobile app delivery easy.

Maybe you can remember pre-iPhone era when:

  • Mobile sites that we accessed from our mobile phones were dominated by WAP pages
  • Data (GPRS) charge to access those sites was still very expensive
  • Downloading Java apps to our phone must be done via Bluetooth or computer cable

Yes, that was how we started to develop Hoiio mobile app in 2007. It was about creating an app on J2ME, making the app size as small as possible and delivering the app via SMS download or Bluetooth.

Thanks to Apple iPhone that has forced mobile operators to lower their mobile data charges and Apple App Store concept that has simplified app delivery process.

Apple’s latest product, iPad,  has been released and we really want to get our hands on one. As it is not currently sold in Singapore, we have to order the iPad online from Apple US site and have it shipped to Singapore. As we were placing the order, we were thinking to share the joy of owning an iPad with our users.  We ordered not one, but three extra iPads, yay! (we can save on shipping cost too)

We are not sure to whom should we give the 1st iPad to. Therefore, we started a competition to give an equal chance for you to win it. Go to ipad.hoiio.com for more information and watch out for more great news on winning more iPads!

If you are wondering why Hoiio has been putting a lot of focus on iPhone lately, here is why.

  1. iPhone is easy to use.
iPhone’s multi-touch gestures just make sense.  It takes little time to know your way around an iPhone.  Similarly, we build Hoiio to be as user friendly as possible, so we can help you save more.
  2. iPhone is so much fun.
You can find almost anything in the App Store, making the iPhone not just a phone, but also a multimedia-player, a portable gaming platform, an eBook reader, a musical instrument (I’ve seen a professional keyboardist using an synthesizer app during concert), and more.  We hope Hoiio can be your fun and holistic way of communicating.
  3. iPhone is always connected.
With the iPhone, your e-mail, social networking accounts are accessible only a few clicks away.  Its push e-mail and push notification features keep you up-to-date.  With Hoiio, we hope you always stay connected with your loved ones.
  4. iPhone OS 4.0 is awesome.
